How to Make Your Blog's Post Title Appear Before the Page Title on Search Engines

  • how to get post titles to show in search engines
    I recently came across a post by someone asking the question “how to make the post title of your blog appear before the page title to boost your search engine rankings”. I sat and thought for a while, was this for SEO reasons or someone just looking for some scripts to test on their blog? OK, let’s see to that.
    We all know that articles and press releases are ranked on search engines based on the related search term entered by the user. But in the case of blogs, the page title appears before the post title which may hamper the favourable progress of a post on search engines. In true sense, your page title would be given more preference making it difficult for your post title to rank high for the relevant search terms. This occurs because text are read from left to right so it would make less sense if your blog’s page title is ranked before its post title.
    SEO is important and every blog owner would wants to at least get some favourable rankings for their site. In reality, it would make more sense if your post title gets indexed for the relevant search terms. To achieve this, we would need to configure our blog to ensure that whenever we publish any article, the post title supersedes the page title.
    To do this successfully, simply go to your blogger dashboard, enter the template editing section and click on edit template. Just click on proceed to enter the xml editor. Now in this area, find the tag below;
    <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
    NOTE: you can also use Ctrl+F the find this line.
    Once you see this code, simply replace it with the code you see below;
    <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;index&quot;'> <title><data:blog.title/></title> <b:else/> <title><data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/></title> </b:if>
    Once you have replaced this tag, simply save your template. It would usually take some minutes, hours or even a few days for this to take effect but the truth is, it would surely work. I have been using this for my blog for some time now and it has helped in my search engine rankings. See that you do this correctly and you’ll be surprised by the results you’d get afterwards.
    To your success.

    Just want to add that in Wordpress blogs - most themes already have the built-in function of changing the order of post-title and blog-title.

    And if not - then there are few SEO plugins which do it (All-in-One-SEO plugin or Yoast Wordpress SEO).

    Interesting idea, and very important to be able to control what people see first and foremost when doing a search. I'll probably need to do this someday.

    Hi Ivan,
    It's a bit off tangent but I would love to say that you have got a great template.By the way, how did you tweak your attribution gadget? You have added a long link in it. I tried adding two or more links by using a URL shortener but it didn't work.

    Its very irritating to see blog title before the post title. I also changed that thing. Now my blog title appears at the end of blog post :-)

    Most of the time we ignore the importance of the title. We get the traffic only if our content is unique or different using social media to others. I will appreciate your effort to gathering this content. Thank you for the post.
